Polinger Shannon & Luchs Company and its properties are committed to supporting the Green movement. The Company recognizes the importance of caring for our environment. We educate our employees and the people who live in and visit our communities on what we can do to contribute to bettering the environment. Currently, each property is replacing (or has replaced) all apartment shower heads, faucets and toilets with low flow devices. Also we have/or will be replacing incandescent lighting with fluorescent or compact florescent light bulbs. All chemicals used for cleaning etc. in the common areas are environmentally safe wherever possible. And finally, we are designing designated recycling areas at each of our apartment communities.
Please take the time to read through this brochure, containing Green Tips for Apartment Residents and Recycling information. Join Polinger Shannon & Luchs in our efforts to make a better future.
Most items that we use every day—especially containers— are made of materials that can be used over and over again. Recycling is collecting used materials that would otherwise be thrown away and breaking down and remaking these materials into new products. When we recycle more, we are saving resources and sending less trash to landfills and incinerators. That’s good for the environment.
In DC, we recycle glass bottles and jars; most types of clean paper, such as mail, office paper and newspaper; metal cans; and plastic bottles with narrow-openings, such as shampoo and ketchup bottles.
So, don’t throw away that milk jug, soda can, pickle jar or newspaper! Don’t just toss that junk mail into the trashcan! Put those items into your recycling cart or bin instead. Now that’s recycling!

The best way to reduce waste is not to create it in the first place. If waste is prevented, there is no need or cost for the collection, processing and disposal.
